Tackling “Dark Data”

A study from IBM referred to the sum of information existing in a company but which is not exploitable as Dark Data.

Our experience of company data management is that no matter what state of the art CRM you choose for your company, gathering information from those who produce it remains problematic.

Field agents like sales representatives or plant operators sometimes consider documenting the information they have as an administrative, non productive task. This results in engagement issues when reporting tools are perceived as an additional burden, and adoption suffers first.

This is especially true if the information is perceived by them as of marginal importance, or something not entirely trustworthy like a gut feeling.

This ultimately results in vital information remaining invisible to the rest of the company, and advanced BI techniques like hidden relationship and weak signal detection are impossible to perform for lack of data.

Need for a proper tool

The IBM study concluded that 85% of this Dark Data was caused by a lack of a proper tool to help users share information without the burden of performing an administrative task.

Good news ! Noteworthy will soon unveil such a tool !

It lifts all friction to collecting and sharing information for by field agents, and uses Natural Language Understanding techniques to extract structured data from it.

The product is currently in closed beta stage and should be released in Q2 2018.
